The Council of Europe, a safeguard of values, has made since its establishment, significant effort towards, amongst other topics, the layout of a sustainable development strategy to improve the environment and the quality of life for all citizens of the European continent. It has also played a very important role in promoting spatial development policies across Europe. In this context, the European Landscape Convention, and above all its ratification by the Hellenic Republic, revives spatial planning since landscape policy will now influence urban planning directions and ultimately create a dynamic for a change in philosophy, in the inspiration and in the vision of planning in the Hellenic Republic.
