Abstract

In the context of spatial developments in Europe and Greece, there has been strong concern about the type and form of urban development -mainly in the past decade. The expansion of urban space to broader peri-urban regions coupled with the major changes inflicted upon the countryside, in terms of its characteristics and relationship with cities, make it necessary to review the urbanisation of Greece. This should be done in the context of a new rationale focusing on not only reprioritizing the Greek urban network, but also defining new urban systems and interrelations"at all levels of spatial planning and design of the country’s residential network.
