Abstract

For the first time in Greece, the political parties' affiliations with ROP projects of A & B grade local government organisations (prefectures and municipalities) in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, are investigated, using the case study method.

The motivation was given by the bibliographic overview along with the reports from a number of researchers regarding the OP projects' accession preferences. The innovation and the uniqueness of this study lies to the fact that during the 3rd CFS period we had unchanged local administrative subdivision in Greece, with the same, in number and size, Prefectures and Municipalities and we also had the succession of two different political parties in power in the Central Government, that were appointing their “own” General Secretaries in the Regions.

Thus a database was developed using primary MIS(Monitoring Information System), data that were sorted by Prefecture and/or Municipality of the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace. These data were processed thoroughly and have produced certain schematics and tables where initially, just with a glance, can be easily seen how the parties involvement and the political bonding to the local governments’ projects accession in the CSF Program interact.
