Η διαμόρφωση του διεθνούς θεσμικού πλαισίου για την προστασία της ιστορικής κληρονομιάς των πόλεων 60 χρόνια από τη Χάρτα της Βενετίας

Abstract

May 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the Venice Charter, arguably the most important institutional reference text for the protection of tangible cultural heritage, both in the operational and policy-making field and in the theoretical documentation of the aspirations of communities for the protection and safeguarding of their cultural heritage. As the present anniversary offers an opportunity for a critical assessment of the Charter's legacy, this article attempts to explore its contribution to the formation of the relevant international institutional framework for the protection of the historic heritage of cities, while analysing the historical context, which prepared and highlighted the necessity of formulating general principles and binding rules of conduct towards the material evidence of the past, with references to institutional texts/stations, some of them compatible with the Charter, and others not, but, in any case, defined by it. The relevant historical background takes place both in the archaeological field and in the architectural-urban planning field.
