Abstract

The issue of ‘metropolitan governance’ reveals various problems of defining the limits between central and local administration. Before this, it reveals problems about defining what ’metropolitan space’ is, by using several criteria (economic, social, urban planning etc.). Spatial determination of large cities from all around the world has to show an interesting variety of examples – this kind of determination can influence the administrative characteristics of local government. In the present article, methodological tools are drawn from a series of global examples and are used in order to define ‘metropolitan space’ in Greece.
