Social Innovation (SI) is an increasingly important issue in Social Policy reform debates. Although there is no consensus on the term "social innovation", it seems that through the varied options it can take, it is present in a number of initiatives to combat poverty and social exclusion in active and healthy and aging policies. But most of all it is present in the daily relationship of the citizen with his place of residence.
This article aims to present some of the reasons that cause this interest, with particular attention to features such as territorial organization, outlined. Looking at the relationship between social innovation and the social, political and spatial context from which it is derived, the broader contexts that influence so much its further development will be emphasized.
Because social innovations are largely driven by the involvement of citizens, or other groups, we find that the level affected by social innovation policies varies mainly with local structures and has particular features such as the territorial organization of the Social Policy system.
