Πόσο γκράφικ νόβελ είναι ένα γκράφικ νόβελ;

Abstract

Considering the most important issues that have already been raised in the Greek and foreign literature reviews concerning graphic novels and the confusion that still exists surrounding the term, another attempt is made in this article to clarify the field, positioning the graphic novels and examining them through their relationship with comics. On this basis, a renewed attempt is made to identify the significant differences of the graphic novel category from the other categories belonging to the Ninth Art. Some of the main and recurring criteria for defining graphic novels in the existing literature are examined and an attempt is made to analyze them critically. Due to the tenuous status of the field, the proposed analysis adopts the "complexity" model as developed by Achim Hescher (2016). The complexity characteristics are applied to Logicomix by Doxiadis et. al. (2008) and it will be shown that it can be reliably used as a measurable criterion of the term graphic novel so that, at least in a technical way, its use and limits can be determined.
