Abstract
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of George Sarri (1923-2012) and Alki Zei (1923-2020) and the declaration of 2023 as the "Literary Year of Alki Zei", we will attempt to investigate the intersections between historical meaning and fictional narration through the examination of the novels "Nikites" (Οι Νικητές, 1983) of G. Sarri and "Arravoniastikia tou Achillea" (Η αρραβωνιαστικιά του Αχιλλέα, 1987) of A. Zei. Our primary stake is the examination of the aesthetic and ideological displacements that will become apparent from the first text to the second. The study will not be limited to the presentation of the obvious thematic analogies of the novels but it will focus on the shifts in the field of narrative representation and ideology between two texts that represent the lived historical past, transforming individual experience, history and myth, to talk about past trauma. How are the identities of the protagonists, left-wing comrades, great(?) leaders, and ideological opponents presented in these novels? Through the comparative study, the mapping of a field of interrelationships is advanced, where convergences and divergences, concentrations and dilutions, illuminations and shadows will become apparent.
