Based on the story world concept as a mental model consisting of characters, events, ideas, rules, significant objects, as well as time-space frames within which the story develops, Maria Papayanni’s work is approached as a unified whole through the lens of Worldbuilding theory. From the analysis of her 4 novels and 5 short, illustrated stories, it is argued that the author builds consistent, coherent, and reliable fictional worlds that enable the emergence of multiple stories. Her narratives, though individually complete, distinct, and autonomous, are simultaneously interconnected and interrelated in a fragmented yet cohesive whole that is larger than the sum of its parts. In this way, the narrative continuum created by Papayanni’s story words unfolds a macro-narrative that leads to a unified aesthetic reading experience.
