Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study and to determine if the business plan of Olympic Education formed a comprehensive intervention in education in Greek schools. In Greece, Olympic Education was incorporated into the educational system at the end of the 1990s, on the occasion of the 2004 Olympic Games. After the pilot implementation the programme was implemented in all of the country's schools in the school year 2001-2002 and was sponsored by a special expenditure for programs/services/actions. Based on funding, the Ministry of Education and the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games' ‘’Athens 2004 ‘’ designed the Olympic Education Plan. The programme was organized in five axes. According to the results of this investigation the planning and implementation of the business plan was successful. Through this programme the pupils in schools were introduced into the principles of the Olympic Charter and the historical and pedagogical foundations of Olympism, taking into account the modern lifestyle and social developments.
