Εvaluation of the Content of Physical Education Teacher’s School Book of Fifth and Sixth Grades of Primary School by Teachers

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the content of the Physical Education (PE) teacher’s school book of the E and F grades of primary school, by the PE teachers themselves. The tool of collecting the data was a specially designed questionnaire, which was anonymous and distributed by post. The sample con-sisted of 322 PE teachers from 322 schools of all over the country. 137 of those sent back the filled question-naires. Descriptive statistics was used along with, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, t-test, Analysis of Va-riance (ANOVA) and Tukey Post-Hoc Test, by p<.05 in order to analyze the data. The results showed a posi-tive evaluation of the content of the teacher’s school book from PE teachers (mean = 3.06) with statistically significant differences at: a) PE teachers with second degree studies (score = 3.56) or postgraduate studies (score = 3.52) than PE teachers with basic degree studies (score = 2.98) at p = 0.001, b) the geographical area of the school with PE teachers in rural areas having a higher value (score = 3.33) than PE teachers in subur-ban areas (score = 2.9) at p = 0.029 and c) men PE teachers (score = 3.16) than women (score = 2.91) at p = 0.032, while there were no differences on age, experience and in - service training of PE teachers. In conclu-sion, PE teacher’s evaluated positively the content of the Physical Education (PE) teacher’s school book of E and F grades. More positive assessment was given by: a) PE teachers with second degree or postgraduate studies, b) PE teachers in rural areas and c) men PE teachers.
