Freshmen’s Academic Characteristics in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Thessaly: A 3-Year Study (2019, 2020, 2021)

The aim of this study was to examine freshmen’s academic characteristics of the academic years 2019, 2020, and 2021 in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, University of Thessaly. This study analyzed data send by the Ministry of Education to the University of Thessaly and the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science. Additional data were requested, if necessary. These data included statistics about student grades in the National Exams and their preferences for entry in departments and universities and the type of high school they attended. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and were presented in Tables. For the majority of freshmen, the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science was in the first three choices in the order of their preferences while their grades in the exams were satisfactory. Males were more than females and most of the freshmen had a school background in the field of humanities and social studies and the field of financial and informatics. The results of this study provided useful information regarding the characteristics of the freshmen in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science that could be used for improv-ing the quality of the study in this department.
