The subject of this review is to understand the term and types of perfectionism as they are established through the multidimensional and the tripartite model of perfectionism, as well as to describe its positive and negative effects in sport. The primary aim is to examine the psycho-social factors that are related to sports perfectionism and more specifically the relation between perfectionism and motivation, self-esteem, anxiety, anger, exhaustion and athlete’s burnout. Moreover, the role of parents and coaches in the process of developing young athlete’s perfectionism is described, while treatment methods of unhealthy perfectionism are also mentioned.
