Abstract

The aim of the paper is to study the impact of Greek folk dance learning in the configuration of the dancing habits of the students. Based on the distinction between learning of Greek folk dance inside and outside University, as well as in that of folkloristic and traditional learning procedures, the hypotheses that were stated referred to the existence of a correlation between the dance knowledge and the dance habits of the students of the P.E. Department in relation to the intra- and extra-University way of learning. To test the hypotheses, a questionnaire was given to a sample of 147 male and female students of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science at the University of Athens. The results showed that the students of the P.E. Department, intra-University folkloristic learning, learn Greek folk dance in the Department to a
large extent, yet those of extra-University folkloristic learning know a larger number of dances. However, both know a larger number of dances in comparison with those of extra-University traditional learning. Finally, the students with extra-University way of Greek folk dance learning develop dance habits in specific dance occasions to a greater extent.
